How Transracial Adoptive Families Can Acknowledge and Navigate Race
Tuesday, April 9 / 11 a.m. – Noon CT Presented by Katie M. Hrapczynski, Ph.D., LCMFT
In the context of the United States — where transracial adoptive families often involve White parents raising children of different racial backgrounds —concerns about meeting the developmental needs of these children are prevalent. However, many practitioners voice concern over feeling ill-prepared to work with transracial adoptive families. To best serve transracial families, practitioners must confront their personal beliefs and
biases and become well-versed in the common and unique circumstances of transracial adoptive families.
Katie M. Hrapczynski, Ph.D., LCMFT, will discuss the historical context of transracial adoptions while also exploring individual factors, family dynamics, and environmental conditions that impact the well-being of transracial adoptees and their families. By the end of this webinar, attendees will possess a nuanced understanding of the complexities inherent in transracial adoptive families and will have practical tools to enhance supporting transracial adoptive families.
