NCFR Research and Policy Brief State Paid Parental Leave Policy: A Tool to Reduce Inequality Within and Between Families
In the absence of federal legislation, 13 states and the District of Columbia have implemented or passed paid parental leave policy. New evidence suggests that paid parental leave improves maternal and child health, reduces economic hardship, and has a positive impact on partner relations.
Policy design features such as eligibility, leave duration, and wage replacement rates vary across states. To reduce between– and within-family inequality, paid parental leave should be accessible to all workers, should include full or near-full wage replacement, and should last at least 12 weeks.
This brief includes several policy recommendations at multiple levels that can help to address existing
inequalities within and between families. READ AND SHARE BRIEF

How Transracial Adoptive Families Can Acknowledge and Navigate Race Tuesday, April 9 / 11 a.m. – Noon
CT Presented by Katie M. Hrapczynski, Ph.D., LCMFT
In the context of the United States — where transracial adoptive families often involve White parents raising children of different racial backgrounds —concerns about meeting the developmental needs of these children are prevalent. However, many practitioners voice concern over feeling ill-prepared to work with transracial adoptive families. To best serve transracial families, practitioners must confront their personal beliefs and biases and become well-versed
in the common and unique circumstances of transracial adoptive families.
Katie M. Hrapczynski, Ph.D., LCMFT, will discuss the historical context of transracial adoptions while also exploring individual factors, family dynamics, and environmental conditions that impact the well-being of transracial adoptees and their families. By the end of this webinar, attendees will possess a nuanced understanding of the complexities inherent in transracial adoptive families and will have practical tools to enhance supporting transracial adoptive families.
Approved for 1 hour of CFLE continuing education
