NCFR Webinars How To Be An Anti-Racist Researcher Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022 / 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. CT Presented by Meagan Call-Cummings, Ph.D.; Sharrell Hassell-Goodman, M. Ed., M.S. Ed.; Giovanni P. Dazzo, Ph.D. / Register now
It is important for researchers to be able to identify and understand how race, class, gender, and other inequities are embedded in the structures of their research plans to help shift research practices to be more inclusive and explicitly anti-racist.
This webinar will begin to address this gap by offering resources to question one’s own research practices through an anti-racist lens. By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to: - Examine and apply anti-racist research methods;
- Connect epistemological commitments with concrete methodological decisions/plans; and
- Develop an individual action plan committed to anti-racist research
All webinars are recorded and available later on demand. Classroom and departmental licenses are also available.

Family Science Impact Supporting the Well-Being of Families in Agriculture From the Fall NCFR Report
NCFR member Ahlishia Shipley, Ph.D., CFLE, uses her Family Science background to make an impact as a program leader with the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), supporting underserved agricultural producers, their families, and their communities.
In her NCFR Q&A, out in this fall's issue of NCFR Report magazine, Dr. Shipley shares more about her work and her professional journey.
"I feel I have the responsibility as someone trained in Family Science and in human development to elevate the human and social dimensions of food and agriculture," she writes, "because people ... are at the heart of a productive, resilient food system."

NCFR Policy Brief LGBTQ+ Parents and Their Children
Charlotte J. Patterson, Ph.D., Rachel H. Farr, Ph.D., and Abbie E. Goldberg, Ph.D.
Research in this NCFR policy brief finds that LGBTQ+ parents generally well adjusted, that their children develop in positive ways, and supportive environments and policies will help them thrive.
Federal, state, and local laws are needed that reduce the likelihood
of discrimination against these families, including in domains of housing, education, and parenting.
In addition, support is needed for research to explore the full range of experiences among diverse LGBTQ+ parents and their children, and to develop ways to help LGBTQ+ parents and their children to thrive.

NCFR members can access a resource collection compiling research on LGBTQ+ individuals and families. See resources.
