2022 NCFR Annual Conference | Nov. 16-19 in Minneapolis Saturday Plenary: Playing With Light: Making the Invisible Visible
Our Saturday plenary at NCFR 2022 will be presented by Derek Peterson, M.Ed., founder and principal director of the Institute for Community and Adolescent Resilience – Unifying Solutions (ICAR-US).
In his plenary, Mr. Peterson will use his innovative and individualized teaching methods to open attendees’ eyes to other worldviews and help us paint a better canvas in our lives. This integrative approach will help attendees in their work to understand youth development through an artistic lens and, in turn, strengthen families. Read full abstract.
Mr. Peterson will also lead a postconference workshop, as part of our Saturday focus linking practitioners and researchers around the needs of local youth and families in Minneapolis. Learn more.

Conference Workshops KAIROS Blanket Exercise: Exploring Relationships Among Indigenous and Non-Indigenous Peoples
Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2022 / 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. CT / $30 professional or student
All are invited to attend the KAIROS Blanket Exercise — a preconference event at the 2022 NCFR Annual Conference in Minneapolis — an interactive and experiential teaching tool that explores the historic and
contemporary relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in North America.
The KAIROS Blanket Exercise involves a 3-hour workshop in which participants stand on blankets spread out on the floor representing traditional native lands. Watch a short video and learn more about this unique workshop.

Free Networking for Emerging Scholars A Conversation with HMRE Researchers and Practitioners
Virtual event: Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022 / 2:30–4 p.m. CT / Free!
If you work or are pursuing work in Healthy Marriage and Relationship Education (HMRE) fields, don't miss this free networking event hosted by NCFR and the Marriage Strengthening Research and Dissemination Center (MAST Center), the week before the 2022 NCFR Annual Conference (November 16-19).
Emerging scholars will be paired with mentors to discuss professional development topics such as: navigating graduate school, launching a research agenda, academic and nonacademic career opportunities in HMRE-related work, and how to form partnerships with HMRE programs.

This time, Theory Thursday dives deep into feminist theories. This discussion will include panelists Katherine Allen, April Few-Demo, and Brad van Eeden-Moorefield, who will lead us through a discussion of feminist theories, how they have grown and changed over the years, and the innovative ways that scholars are utilizing feminist theories to understand diverse family processes.

Request for Proposals Family Perspectives on Divine Forgiveness

Intent by Nov. 1, 2022
Research grants totaling $2.1 million are available for conceptual, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research on psychological perspectives on divine forgiveness. Family Scientists are encouraged to apply.
Family Science is an area specifically mentioned in the Request for Proposals (RFP) and is essential in trying to understand the source of an individual’s ideas about divine forgiveness.
Two recent conceptual papers by NCFR Fellow Frank D. Fincham, Ph.D., highlight opportunities for research on the
perception and experience of divine forgiveness.

Weathering Hurricanes and Other Disasters Our hearts go out to families and individuals recently affected by hurricanes, flooding, and other natural disasters — including in the Caribbean, the Phillippines, Costa Rica, Pakistan, Florida, Canada, and Alaska.
Before you donate to a relief aid organization, make sure to research them on trusted sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar, which rate nonprofits based on their effectiveness and financial condition.

Zippy's Video of the Week NASA Launches DART at Astreroid
On Monday, Sept. 26, NASA took a page from out of a science fiction movie and crashed a spacecraft into an asteroid with the goal of altering its trajectory. The Double Asteroid Redirection Test (or "DART") space mission is a test of a planetary defense against asteroids heading toward Earth.
The asteroid smashed in this week's DART test posed no threat to Earth. Results are still being calculated as to how successful the test was on altering the asteroid's course.
You can watch the whole mission, as broadcast live by NASA. Or you can watch the mission's "official trailer" by following the link below. Unfortunately, actor Bruce Willis was unavailable to help with either video.
