The wait is over! NCFR is now accepting proposals for its 2024 Annual Conference (Nov. 20-23 in Bellevue, Washington). Please view the full call for proposals for details on conference presentation formats, criteria, topics, and more.

Family scholars and practitioners from across all disciplines and career levels are invited to submit proposals for papers, posters, symposia, lightning papers, collaborative workshops, training workshops, and more.

Submit your proposal by March 4, 2024.

Looking for guidance? Sign up to be paired with a proposal mentor by sending your draft proposal to Cindy Winter by Feb. 15, 2024. You will be matched with a supportive mentor who will provide feedback before you submit your proposal. NCFR members can also sign up to be a proposal mentor.

Managing and Understanding Stress in Your Work

NCFR's next two webinars share a common theme: STRESS! We all encounter stress in our work and family lives. For those who work with families in their career, it is especially important to learn how you can first manage your own stress, before helping others.

In the first webinar, Amber Allen, CFLE, will help us identify stressors within the workplace, explore strategies to enhance focus and productivity, and provide tools to manage both short-term and chronic stress.

Encouraging Research through Student Mentorship
Thursday, Feb. 22, 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. CT
Presented by: Ryan G. Carlson, Ph.D.; Naomi J. Wheeler, Ph.D.; and Nakita Carroll, M.A.

A mutually beneficial partnership between faculty mentors and student mentees can increase both the quality and quantity of research produced, while also improving the skills of both the learners and instructors.

This webinar for any faculty—new or seasoned—will demonstrate how to develop and maintain a research mentoring relationship in a university setting. Strategies for addressing current factors that influence success within the mentoring process will be shared, as well as examples of implementing research mentorship across universities and disciplines.

Specifically, attendees will leave this webinar with the ability to:

Apply relational and systemic processes to develop and maintain research mentoring relationships;
Recognize and overcome common challenges for developing mutually-beneficial mentoring relationships; and
Implement intentional practices to reduce disparities in the mentoring process.

Bridgewater College Changes Program Name to Include 'Family Science'

NCFR is pleased to announce that Bridgewater College has changed its undergraduate program to Human Development and Family Science. The previous name was Family and Consumer Sciences. Find Bridgewater's program in the NCFR Degree Programs Guide.

Bridgewater College's program is CFLE-approved which means that once students complete the undergraduate program, they can apply for the CFLE credential through an abbreviated process with NCFR.

Member Accomplishments

Jerica M. Berge, Ph.D., MPH, LMFT, CFLE, is the new director of the Adult and Child Center for Outcomes Research and Delivery Science at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

Elizabeth Ramsey, Ph.D., CFLE, is co-recipient of a $1.8 million federal grant to establish the Tennessee Tech Center for Addiction Prevention, Research, and Support at Tennessee Tech University.

Eboni J. Baugh, Ph.D., CFLE, was recently appointed as the new associate dean for graduate studies and faculty affairs in the College of Health and Human Performance at East Carolina University.
