Helping Families and Individuals in Puerto Rico

Our hearts go out to all families and individuals in the Caribbean affected by Hurricane Fiona — especially the people of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic, who have lost power, access to clean water, and have had their homes damaged by flooding.

For those wanting to help the people of Puerto Rico, NPR
has compiled a list of options. Additionally, the Children's Health Fund and UNICEF have set up donation sites.

Before you donate to an organization, make sure to research them on trusted sites like Charity Navigator and Guidestar, which rate nonprofits based on their effectiveness and financial condition.

For those working with families recovering from natural disasters and other traumatic events, NCFR's collections How to Talk to Children About Tragedies and Weathering Hurricanes and Other Disasters offer relevant resources.

Have a resource to add to our collections? Email Trip Sullivan at tripsullivan@ncfr.org.

The purpose of Dr. Williams' presentation is twofold: (1) to critique the conventional use of race in family scholarship and (2) to present a path forward by centering how, and in what ways, racism maintains racial inequality in family life. Read full abstract.
