2025 NCFR Annual Conference
Theory, Construction, and Research Methodology (TCRM) Workshop: New Format to TCRM Submissions
Theory Construction and Research Methodology (TCRM) Workshop is a preconference tradition at the NCFR Annual Conference. TCRM fosters discussion and refinement of working papers in an interactive environment.
This year, TCRM debuts a new proposal format—the question poster! Designed for students, and new professionals, and researchers exploring new domains. Question posters offer a fresh approach to presenting research. Instead of showcasing completed studies, these posters spark discussion by posing critical research questions, conceptual dilemmas, or methodological challenges.
TCRM will continue to accept traditional proposals alongside this new format. Proposals are anticipated to be due Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

FREE Webinar for ALL Registrants— In Celebration of Family Life Education Month
Supporting Relocating Military Families
Mon., Feb. 17 / 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. CT
Presenter: Teresa Banner, M.S., B.S.N., RN, CFLE
The U.S. Department of Defense reports that over 400,000 military families relocate annually. These families relocate on average every 2.5 years, which places stress on the family system and may reduce accessibility to a local social support system. Although support is available to service members and their families through the military, Family Life Educators can provide additional family-centered support that is needed to assist families as they experience the stress of relocating.
With an appreciation for military culture and the common strengths of this population, webinar presenter Teresa Banner, M.S., B.S.N., RN, CFLE, will outline practical ways Family Life Education professionals can support military families before, during, and after relocation across the country or world. Ms. Banner will discuss common strengths and challenges experienced by military families during relocation and provide evidence-based approaches Family Life Educators can use to support military families through the transition.

NCFR Journals
New NCFR Research, PLUS Feb. Issues of JMF & FR
Keep up with the latest research from all three of NCFR's scholarly journals advancing Family Science — Journal of Marriage and Family (JMF), Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR), and Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR).
Check out this early-view article published in Family Relations:
Father involvement among Chinese fathers in four geolocations: Exploring cultural nuances and similarities — Susan S. Chuang, Ph.D., Ching-Yu Huang, Ph.D., April C. T. Shen, Ph.D., M.S.W., Meihua Zhu, Ph.D., Bethany Wu, Agnes Ng, Ph.D., M.S.W., and Joyce Y. Feng, Ph.D.
This article analyzes father involvement among Chinese fathers across four different geopolitical contexts—the authors convey how fathering is distinct and multidimensional, and how even in one particular social group, fathers' involvement cannot be lumped into one homogenous group. The works of SEVERAL NCFR members & CFLEs are referenced in this article. This study extends the work of NCFR Fellow & member Joseph H. Pleck, Ph.D., which was a co-authorship.
View more new early-view articles published between Feb. 2 and Feb. 8 across NCFR's journals.
NCFR members with journal subscriptions have access to the full text of articles on the journals section of the website. Additionally, you can get immediate notifications of new articles submitted to NCFR's journals by signing up for email alerts. Seize the opportunity— get your manuscript published in an NCFR journal! NCFR Publications: Important Update
Coming Fall 2025: NCFR Nexus
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) is excited to share an important update about NCFR’s publications. Beginning in fall 2025, NCFR’s quarterly publications Family Focus (currently part of *NCFR Report) and CFLE Network will transition into a new, quarterly, digital-only publication called NCFR Nexus. This publication, designed for NCFR members and Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs), will serve as a central hub for sharing and gathering information across NCFR’s transdisciplinary community of researchers, educators, practitioners, and policymakers. You can be an NCFR member or a CFLE to access NCFR Nexus. You do not need to be both. NCFR welcomes Beth Maddock Magistad, Ph.D., CFLE, as the editor of this new publication.
Through diverse authorship and a commitment to research and practice integration, NCFR Nexus will support NCFR’s new mission by:
✔️ Advancing a thriving transdisciplinary field
✔️ Expanding scientific knowledge and application
✔️ Contributing to just societies through informed perspectives
As a member and CFLE benefit, NCFR Nexus will continue to provide exclusive, high-quality content to support professional growth and impact. Stay tuned to NCFR communication channels for more details in the coming months!
To support this transition, the winter 2024, spring 2025, and summer 2025 issues of Family Focus and the winter 2025 and spring 2025 issues of CFLE Network will be digital-only. Additionally, there will be no summer 2025 issue of CFLE Network as we focus on developing NCFR Nexus. NCFR appreciates your understanding as we work to bring you an enhanced and more impactful publication.
*NCFR Report will continue as its own separate publication for news and member updates.
Thank you for being a part of the NCFR community. If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Oswald. |
