Submit Proposal to NCFR 2025 Conference

Call for Proposal Submissions to NCFR 2025

Nov. 19-22 / Baltimore, Maryland / Baltimore Marriott Waterfront

Conference Theme: "Power, Privilege, and Difference: Lived Experiences of Changing Families and Societies"

We hope you will join us for our reimagined conference in Baltimore, Maryland. The proposal submission system is still open—submit your completed research, or research in progress to the 2025 NCFR Annual Conference! The deadline to submit your proposal is April 1, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PDT.

There have been some changes to this year's proposal submission process:

  • Additional time to submit your work for consideration! Submission window opened later this year to offer more time to submit.

  • Concise abstracts encouraged! (500 word-max!) This will make your submission quicker and more efficient.

  • A unified call for proposals! Instead of submitting your proposal to a specific NCFR section, you will be able to select up to three of NCFR's sections and/or NCFR's SNP group—whichever most aligns with your topic!

  • Refined subject areas! Options have been streamlined from nearly 400 to about 50. This allows for curated sessions that integrate multiple NCFR section perspectives.

PLUS, this year you have the option to submit proposals for work in progress (as long as it is sufficiently developed by the time of the conference).

We are excited and look forward to seeing your contributions to make this year's reimagined annual conference even more impactful and memorable!

>>Submit your proposal by April 1, 2025, 11:59 p.m. PDT<<

NCFR Student Honors Program

Spring, summer, and fall applications→ Fall applications only

There has been a change to the NCFR Honors Student Recognition Program. Due to recent staff transitions and the introduction of NCFR’s new vision and Guiding Principles, we are focusing on streamlining and improving our programming. We hope to enhance and grow the student honors program by implementing new software that facilitates the application process. As part of this adjustment, the NCFR Honors Student Recognition Program will be held once in 2025 in the fall. Students, regardless of their 2025 graduating term (spring, summer, or fall), can apply for honors and receive a stole in the fall. We apologize for any inconvenience this transition may cause. NCFR values students’ achievements, and we hope they will consider applying in the fall to add this recognition to their résumés.

Here are some additional student and new professional awards (PDF) offered by NCFR in case you or your students are eligible and interested in applying.

NCFR Journals

New NCFR Research

Published between March 9—15

Each week, we look to share some of the latest research from all three of NCFR's scholarly journals advancing Family Science — Journal of Marriage and Family (JMF), Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR), and Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR).

Check out these early-view articles, written by NCFR members and NCFR Fellows, published in FR:

pictured l to r: Lee, Few-Demo, Wei, Adler-Baeder

  • Exploring father–adolescent closeness: A random forest approach (open access)— Garrett T. Pace, Ph.D., M.S.W., NCFR member Joyce Y. Lee, Ph.D., M.S.W., LCSW, Kaitlin P. Ward, Ph.D., LCSW, Olivia D. Chang, doctoral student, M.S.W., LLMSW

In this open access article, the authors demonstrate how machine learning, specifically random forest, can advance Family Science, particularly in studying father–child relationships, which is helpful towards mitigating methodological challenges.

  • Strategic performance of Black queer motherwork— Steph Cooke, Ph.D., LMFT, NCFR Fellow April L. Few-Demo, Ph.D.

This study advanced the understanding of how Black queer mothers experience and engage in motherwork through a Black feminist lens; this study also shines light on the importance of intentionality.

  • Lessons from the field: Developing and piloting a CRE program for couples with chronic illnesses— Joshua R. Novak, Ph.D., LMFT, Lindsey Robinson, M.S., LMFT, Leah Burke, M.S., NCFR member Menglin Wei, doctoral student, M.S., NCFR Fellow Francesca Adler-Baeder, Ph.D., CFLE

In this Lessons from the Field, the authors describe results and lessons learned from a pilot study of the Healthy We, Healthy Us: Becoming Partners in Health program (HWHU), an online, six-session couple relationship education program for couples managing a chronic illness.
