Help Create a Vision for NCFR Members & CFLEs: Take the Survey Through Sept. 23
The NCFR Board of Directors is excited to hear from NCFR members and Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs) this fall to inform the organization's strategic planning!
It's been more than 10 years since NCFR last worked on strategic planning, and feedback is needed from members and CFLEs, who have a direct interest in NCFR realizing its full potential.
Our first step: crafting a vision for NCFR. Members and CFLEs are invited to take a brief anonymous survey through Sept. 23 about a potential vision statement.

NCFR Webinar
Integrating Emotion Coaching into Youth Mentoring Programs Tuesday, Sept. 24 / 11 a.m. – Noon CT
Presented by: Jen Krafchick, Ph.D., CFLE, and Lindsey Weiler, Ph.D., LMFT
Multiple indicators demonstrate high numbers of youth are struggling emotionally, especially youth with adverse childhood experiences. Youth need support to improve their emotional well-being. Those who work with youth need enhanced skills to offer appropriate support.
Emotion coaching in a mentoring context is a new and innovative approach. Coupled with trauma-informed practices and a diversity, equity, and inclusion framework, emotion coaching provides an effective approach to mentor/protégé interactions. Emotion coaching fosters youth's capacity for emotion regulation (i.e., identifying emotions, modifying or tolerating emotions, practicing regulatory strategies, and evaluating success of those strategies).
In this webinar, Jen Krafchick, Ph.D., CFLE, and Lindsey Weiler, Ph.D., LMFT, will provide the basic concepts of emotion coaching and its benefits.

Call for Submissions | Family Focus The Psychological Impact of Privilege Proposal Deadline Nov. 20
Family life provides early learning experiences to create and maintain healthy relationships with other people, an important component of health and well-being. Yet family life experiences are influenced by one’s social address, which includes characteristics of one’s identity (e.g., race, religion, sexuality, class). Social address is associated with social advantages, or privileges, that influence family life experiences.
For this issue of Family Focus, the editor invites you to consider the psychological impact of social advantages that promote exclusion, injustice, and isolation. Specifically, in which ways does privilege disrupt the ability of individuals, families, and society to create and maintain healthy relationships?
Prospective authors should submit their proposals by Nov. 20 using the online submission form. All authors will be notified by Dec. 2, and articles are due Jan. 10, 2025. Contact the editor with questions.

NCFR Family Focus Family Focus on Resilience and Healing
Family Science tackles the diverse realities of people's experiences by encouraging dialogue that highlights both the benefits and challenges of family life. By engaging in dialogue that encourages family professionals to see how something can be both beneficial and harmful at the same time. Through dialectical thinking, researchers and practitioners explore how two seemingly conflicting truths can coexist.
This issue of Family Focus in NCFR Report magazine invites readers to examine resilience and healing across different contexts, while also exploring the complexities within these processes.
Members will be prompted to log in.

Video of the Week
Will & Harper
Comedy legend Will Ferrell and former "Saturday Night Live" head writer Harper Steele had been buddies since the mid-1990s. Two years ago, Steele sent an email announcing that she had transitioned to a woman. How the two approached the changing dynamics of their friendship became the basis of a new Netflix documentary, "Will & Harper," in which the two embark on a cross-country road trip – 17 days of laughter, tears and beer. CBS correspondent Tracy Smith talks with Ferrell and Steele about their adventure and what they learned about themselves, and the nation they navigated.
