Sneak Peek: 2023 Family Life Education Virtual Summit

The 2023 Family Life Education Summit is scheduled for Friday, June 23, 2023. This is a virtual event to focus solely on family practitioners at all experience levels working with and for families.

This year's theme is Unleashing the Power of Family Life Education: Increasing Our Impact. The keynote presentation by Kimmery Newsom is Let’s Talk About It. How to Integrate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion into Our Work Families. 


A short call for proposals is posted now. The online proposal submission system will open in February.

Achieving a nonprofit, organizational status provides an opportunity for a family professional to form a business that clearly focuses on the services families in the community need, while also allowing an opportunity to focus on the expertise and interests of the professional.

Utilizing the presenter's own nonprofit experiences, this webinar will provide an overview of the fundamentals needed to form a nonprofit business or organization.

By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
  • Identify the differences between for-profit and nonprofit entities
  • Form components of a nonprofit including bylaws, board roles, conflict of policy, and budget
  • Apply for a nonprofit status from the federal government

Presenter(s) will talk briefly about a topic related to teaching followed by a discussion with the presenter(s) and audience members. The discussion will focus on applying the information presented to enhance classroom pedagogy.

Purdue University Changes Dept. Name to Include 'Family Science'


NCFR is pleased to share that Purdue University has changed the name of its department in the College of Health and Human Sciences — as well as its doctoral program and undergraduate minor — to Human Development and Family Science.

The department and program names previously were Human Development and Family Studies.

NCFR Recognizes Amie Kahovec Allen for Outstanding Research Proposal

NCFR is proud to recognize Amie Kahovec Allen, M.S., as the 2022 recipient of the Jessie Bernard Outstanding Research Proposal from a Feminist Perspective Award, which is given to a graduate student or new professional who has demonstrated excellence in research and potential contribution to feminist scholarship.

Ms. Allen's research proposal is titled “Domestic Violence Exposure and Legal System Involvement Experiences of Young Adults: A Retrospective, Intersectional, Qualitative Study.”

NCFR's Honors Student Program recognizes the exceptional academic, service, and leadership accomplishments of undergraduate and graduate students in the Family Science discipline.

You can apply completely online. All application materials and the application fee for spring graduates must be received by March 1, 2022.

2023 Groves Conference On Marriage and Family: Lakota Culture

May 30 – June 3, 2023 / Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota


There is still time to register for the 2023 Groves Conference on the Pine Ridge Reservation, home of the Oglala Lakota people!

Immerse yourself in Lakota culture through service, storytelling, and demonstrations about traditional Lakota practices. Other highlights include Wounded Knee Memorial, a traditional Sweat Lodge experience, Crazy Horse Memorial, and Wind Cave National Park.
