Call for Authors: CFLE Network Leaning Into Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Family Life Education
Fueled by the social unrest that followed the murder of George Floyd in 2020, many organizations have stepped up efforts to address discrimination and bias in their policies and practices. Finding ways to be more inclusive increases the effectiveness of educational programming and other services.
Many Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs) incorporate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
practices into their work as they strive to serve a wide range of individuals and families. In a spirit of mutual exploration and learning, we invite Family Life Educators to share their DEI ideas and experiences with each other. Please consider contributing an article for the Winter 2023 issue of Network.
Examples of potential topics include:
- Your journey confronting implicit bias and/or discrimination in your work as a CFLE
- Your work as a CFLE in counseling, teaching, or supporting others in their DEI work
- Your work as a CFLE developing or participating in programs that promote DEI
- FLE methods used to increase inclusion of diverse groups
- Discussing any topic relevant to DEI in FLE
The submission deadline for articles is December 15, 2022. Please review the author guidelines at https://bit.ly/3d5WzmR. Notification of intent to submit by December 1 is appreciated but not required.

Zippy's Video of the Week Baseball's Phanatic
Major League Baseball's World Series continues this week between the Houston Astros and the Philadelphia Phillies, and even if you're not a fan of the sport, you might still enjoy the sport's biggest phan.
The Phanatic is the Phillies mascot, and he will be easy to spot if you tune into this week's games. He is a 6 foot, lime green, furry monster with a long trumpet-shaped snout, bushy eyebrows, and an enormous stomach. His signature move is the "belly whomp" when he grabs his gut and wiggles it around to taunt opposing teams.
This week's video includes some of his greatest antics, including dumping popcorn on George Steinbrenner's friend, shooting hot dogs out of a cannon, and the infamous time that he mocked Dodgers manager Tommy Lasorda just a little too much.
