Olson Grant
NCFR Olson Grant Announces 2022 Recipients

NCFR and David H. Olson, Ph.D., are proud to recognize Bethany Willis Hepp, Ph.D., CFLE; Katie Hrapczynski, Ph.D., LMFT; and Cheryl Fortner, Ph.D., (pictured left to right) as the 2022 recipients of the NCFR Olson Grant: Bridging Research, Theory, and Practice.

Now in its third year, this $10,000 annual grant is available to NCFR members working to creatively contribute to the discipline of Family Science by effectively uniting research, theory, and practice in their work.

The proposed study, A Multimethod Approach to Understanding Transitions to Adoptive Parenthood, will test the theoretical model published by Dr. Hepp, that utilizes symbolic interactionism to understand the choices made by families considering adoption as a path to parenthood.

Thursday Plenary: Surviving “Murder Town USA”

Our Thursday plenary at NCFR 2022 will be presented by Yasser A. Payne, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology and criminal justice at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Payne’s street ethnographic research program examines notions of resilience, structural violence and gun violence with street-identified Black Americans by drawing on an unconventional methodological framework
.

In his plenary presentation, Dr. Payne will share how his street participatory action research (Street PAR) program trained a set of street-identified Black men and women to examine and do activism on gun violence in Wilmington, Delaware. Read full abstract.

All active Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs) are invited to attend this FREE one-hour online networking session for CFLEs working in academia to discuss the topic of internships.

Dr. Berglund is the department chair of psychology and Family Science and professor of Family Science at Mississippi University for Women, a regional, comprehensive public university. In addition to teaching classes in human sexuality, child advocacy, family crisis, statistics, and research methods, she has served as the instructor for their professional courses, including professional issues in Family Science, pre-internship orientation, and internship.
