CALL FOR ARTICLES |
NCFR Nexus: Call for Articles
Submission deadline: Aug. 1
Beginning fall 2025, the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) will transition to a new, quarterly, digital-only publication called NCFR Nexus. This publication will serve NCFR’s transdisciplinary community of researchers, educators, practitioners, and policymakers.
The fall 2025 issue of NCFR Nexus will explore the impact of privilege. Family life experiences are influenced by one’s social address, which includes intersectional characteristics of one’s identity (e.g., race, gender, religion, sexuality, class, ability).
Research-focused articles on this theme have already been collected. The editor specifically invites authors of teaching and learning-focused articles and practice-focused articles that explore these questions. How do teachers in higher education classrooms explore these topics with their students? How do these topics come up for practitioners working with individuals and families in the field?
Prospective authors should submit their articles through the NCFR Nexus Article Submission Form by Aug. 1, 2025. Contact the NCFR Nexus editor, Beth Magistad, Ph.D., CFLE, with questions, ideas, and intentions.

National Research Center on Hispanic Children & Families Brief
Highlights From a Decade of the Center’s Research on Supports for Economic Self-sufficiency Among Latino Families With Children
The National Research Center on Hispanic Children & Families released a new brief highlighting a decade of research on supports for economic self-sufficiency among Latino families and children. This piece draws on the Center's work from 2013 to 2024 to offer three summative research highlights and considerations to policymakers for enhancing Latino children's and family well-being.
These highlights include:
-
Understanding Latino demographic and geographic growth is a critical factor for supporting the economic well-being and security of Latino families and their children, as well as our nation’s future economic well-being.
-
Latino children reside in families with high rates of employment, yet a disproportionate number of Latino households have low incomes and lower receipt of government program benefits than expected based on income eligibility.
-
Policy design and implementation affect Latino families’ experiences with government income support and services.
