NCFR Strategic Planning
What Good Should NCFR Create in the World?
Members & CFLEs: Give Feedback on NCFR's "Ends" Through Oct. 14

What specific good should NCFR and its members create in the world?

A few weeks ago, NCFR Members and Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs) weighed in on a potential vision statement for NCFR: Every Family Thriving. The NCFR Board of Directors received well over 100 replies, which provided the confidence to take the next step in NCFR's strategic planning process: to learn what you think should be the actual outcomes toward which NCFR should strive, also known as NCFR's "Ends."

Now through Oct. 14, you're invited to react to the board's ideas, exchange comments with your colleagues, and post your own ideas.

Enhance Your Qualitative Research Skills: Coding and Writing Limitations

Part 1: Intro to the Art of Qualitative Coding / On Demand Now
Part 2: Writing Limitations Sections in Qualitative & Grounded Theory Studies / Thursday, Oct. 17, 2024 / 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. CT

The limitations section of qualitative studies provides the reader important information to understand the results of the research (e.g., clearly defines the scope and limitations of the results and helps to contextualize the findings).

Yet, attempts to standardize validity criteria in qualitative methods are confounded by the variety of qualitative approaches. Readers are often left with little insight beyond the basic limitations used in traditional quantitative studies, such as sample size. In the second webinar of the qualitative research webinar series, the webinar presenters will focus on writing the limitation section for qualitative research.

The presenters will highlight lessons learned from a systematic review of the limitation sections of grounded theory studies. Then, to broaden the insights shared, frameworks for validity used in grounded theory traditions will be contrasted to attempts to develop universal qualitative criteria. The presenters will recommend key criteria to consider in other qualitative traditions, such as ethnography, case study, and narrative analysis.

Each webinar is approved for 1.5 hours of CFLE continuing education credit.
Part 1 is now available on demand.

The Psychological Impact of Privilege
Proposal Deadline Nov. 20

Family life provides early learning experiences to create and maintain healthy relationships with other people, an important component of health and well-being. Yet family life experiences are influenced by one’s social address, which includes characteristics of one’s identity (e.g., race, religion, sexuality, class). Social address is associated with social advantages, or privileges, that influence family life experiences.

For this issue of Family Focus, the editor invites you to consider the psychological impact of social advantages that promote exclusion, injustice, and isolation. Specifically, in which ways does privilege disrupt the ability of individuals, families, and society to create and maintain healthy relationships?

Prospective authors should submit their proposals by Nov. 20 using the online submission form. All authors will be notified by Dec. 2, and articles are due Jan. 10, 2025. Contact the Family Focus editor, Joyce Serido, Ph.D., with questions.

Gen Z Perspectives on Work

This year, members of Generation Z, those born after 1997, are expected to outnumber baby boomers in the workforce for the first time. They bring with them, like past generations, different expectations, attitudes toward upper management and views on the importance of work in their daily lives. PBS NewsHour asked for the perspective of those workers and reports on the generational differences they found.
