Thank you for your incredible patience, flexibility, and understanding as we navigate the ongoing hotel power outage following the bomb-cyclone storm on Tuesday night.

The Thursday conference schedule has been updated in the Whova conference app, and the PDF schedule to reflect room changes.

See Whova for latest updates updates
here: https://whova.com/portal/webapp/ncfra_202411/Agenda

Learn how to access the Whova app here: https://www.ncfr.org/ncfr-2024/conference-app

Please read our full message on the power outage.
Update on Food & Dining:

Light Continental Breakfast – 7:45 - 8:30 a.m.
Grand Ballroom Foyer, 2nd floor
Open to all conference attendees

Coffee in the 1st floor lobby available for all guests.

Food at the University Receptions is open to all conference attendees – 4:45 p.m. in Grand Ballroom E-K.

Please note: Food stations outside of session rooms are designated for specific meetings only and signage will indicate this.

Dining inside the hotel: All Hyatt Regency Hotel restaurants are closed until further notice while we await power updates.

Outside the hotel: All restaurants, shops, and stores outside the hotel are all schedule to open and operate on schedule.

Hotel guests can take the skybridge on the 2nd floor across the street to the Lincoln Square Mall and Bellevue Square Mall to find a variety of options.

Groceries can be found at the Safeway or the QFC, each a few blocks away from the hotel.
When You Arrive Onsite

The badge pickup area is located on the 2nd floor, Olympic Tower.
Stop by to retrieve your conference badge, ask questions about navigating the conference — locating events and services, etc. Badge pickup hours are:

Thursday & Friday, Nov. 21-22 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 23 7 to 11:30 a.m.

*Remember, your conference badge must be worn at all times in the conference meeting spaces.

Getting Around the Conference Space
Please note: The 2nd and 3rd floors of the Hyatt Regency are in two different towers with their own elevators — Olympic Tower and Cascade Tower. A flight of steps connects the two 2nd floors; the two 3rd floors do not connect. To get to session rooms, look for the tower elevators closest to your destination.

Stay safe during the conference! Avoid traveling by yourself and check in on friends, colleagues, and other conference goers. Instead of venturing out into the city, consider using a delivery service for food or needed items such as Door Dash, Uber Eats, or InstaCart. Please see more safety tips here: https://www.ncfr.org/ncfr-2024/health-safety#safety
A map of the Hyatt Regency can be found on the amenities webpage, inside Whova (the conference app), and in the Conference Program Guidebook PDF.

Connect to WiFi in conference meeting spaces with the SSID Wiley-NCFR and the password NCFR2024.

And speaking of online access, you will also find the (15) livestream sessions inside Whova.

Presented by: Velma McBride Murry, Ph.D.

Velma McBride Murry, Ph.D., is Lois Autrey Betts Endowed Chair at Vanderbilt University. She is co-director of the Program for Health Equity Research (PHER) at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. McBride Murry is Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Health Policy and the Department of Human and Organizational Development.

African American families navigate not only everyday stressors and adversities, but also unique sociocultural stressors (e.g., "toxic upstream waters" like oppression). Despite these challenges, African American families have developed resilience and engage in resistance, drawing on strength-based adaptive coping strategies, to some extent, to navigate and swim in toxic oppressive waters. Dr. McBride Murry will address how resistance can, which at times leads to positive adaptations, be incorporated into the study of resilience.

  • When viewing the conference schedule, you'll find groupings of posters by topic areas.
  • Abstracts are available to read in the Whova conference app.
  • Note the numbers assigned to the posters you're interested in viewing. Posters are displayed in numerical order onsite and in the app.
  • Think of questions you might have for the presenter ahead of time.
  • Ask the presenter if you can take a picture or get a copy of their poster.
  • Attend poster sessions with a group and split up. Meet up later to share what you learned.

Participants are encouraged to wear face masks in all conference-related event spaces if they have been exposed to a respiratory virus. NCFR will have a supply of masks available but suggests attendees come prepared with their own masks. Read more
