NCFR Journals
New NCFR Research
Keep up with the latest research from all three of NCFR's scholarly journals advancing Family Science — Journal of Marriage and Family (JMF), Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR), and Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR).
Check out these open access early-view articles published in JMF and JFTR:
• Parent–teen dyadic experiences of racism: Implications for Black familial racial socialization — Shawn C. T. Jones, Ph.D., NCFR member Shardé McNeil Smith, Ph.D., Naya Sutton, M.S., Lesley Blair Winchester, M.S., Broquelynn Shepard, M.S.
• Considering human development and Family Science from an HBCU faculty perspective: Commentary on Dyer — NCFR member Jennifer J. Ross, Ph.D.
• Theorizing academia: Focus on human development and Family Science — NCFR Fellows: Ramona Faith Oswald, Ph.D., and Anisa M. Zvonkovic, Ph.D.
In this week's open access early-view article in JMF, researchers articulate the importance of considering parent and youth experiences with racism as it pertains to racial socialization as it may be underestimated by focusing on individual experiences and not accounting for the linked lives of Black parents and their adolescents.
Additionally, two of this week's open access early-view articles in JFTR center on Family Science in academia towards the advancement and visibility of Family Science.
View more new early-view articles published between Feb. 9 and Feb. 15 across NCFR's journals.
NCFR members with journal subscriptions have access to the full text of articles on the journals section of the website. You can get immediate notifications of new articles submitted to NCFR's journals by signing up for email alerts. Seize the opportunity— get your manuscript published in an NCFR journal! Check out some tips & strategies before doing so.

CFLE Network: Family Resource Management
Submit Articles by March 15
The spring 2025 issue of CFLE Network will explore Family Resource Management (FRM), one of the 10 content areas required to become a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE). FRM is an important, and often stressful, topic for families. Across time, many families navigate scarce resources such as time or money, value or goal conflicts, and difficult decision-making. CFLEs have the knowledge and tools to support families on the journey toward better resource management. Share how you address FRM in your Family Life Education (FLE) work.
The submission deadline is March 15. Please review the author guidelines. Use our CFLE Network Article Submission Form to submit your article. Contact the CFLE Network Editor Beth Magistad, Ph.D., CFLE, with any questions or more information.

NCFR Publications: Important Update
NCFR Nexus is Coming Fall 2025
The National Council on Family Relations (NCFR) is excited to share an important update about NCFR’s publications. Beginning in fall 2025, NCFR’s quarterly publications Family Focus (currently part of *NCFR Report) and CFLE Network will transition into a new, quarterly, digital-only publication called NCFR Nexus. This publication, designed for NCFR members and Certified Family Life Educators (CFLEs), will serve as a central hub for sharing and gathering information across NCFR’s transdisciplinary community of researchers, educators, practitioners, and policymakers. You can be an NCFR member or a CFLE to access NCFR Nexus. You do not need to be both. NCFR welcomes Beth Maddock Magistad, Ph.D., CFLE, as the editor of this new publication.
Through diverse authorship and a commitment to research and practice integration, NCFR Nexus will support NCFR’s new mission by:
✔️ Advancing a thriving transdisciplinary field
✔️ Expanding scientific knowledge and application
✔️ Contributing to just societies through informed perspectives
As a member and CFLE benefit, NCFR Nexus will continue to provide exclusive, high-quality content to support professional growth and impact. Stay tuned to NCFR communication channels for more details in the coming months!
To support this transition, the winter 2024, spring 2025, and summer 2025 issues of Family Focus and the winter 2025 and spring 2025 issues of CFLE Network will be digital-only. Additionally, there will not be a summer 2025 issue of CFLE Network as we focus on developing NCFR Nexus. NCFR appreciates your understanding as we work to bring you an enhanced and more impactful publication.
*NCFR Report will continue as its own separate publication for news and member updates.
Thank you for being a part of the NCFR community. If you have any questions, please contact Jessica Oswald. |
