The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) at Utah State University invites applications for a 24-month postdoctoral fellow (with the opportunity to extend) to participate in research focused on the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic, family relationship processes, adolescent development, and youth's health risk behaviors. The postdoctoral fellow will specifically engage with the investigative team on two NIAAA/NIH funded grants (R01AA025331 and R01AA030191) focused on how sibling influence processes and pandemic-related disruptions shaped adolescents' (and their parents') alcohol and other substance use trajectories across the arc of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Candidates are expected to be interested in pursuing an academic or research-oriented career following their time as a fellow and can expect strong commitment from their mentor to develop additional research skills and enhance marketability. The fellow will be provided with ample time to write, gain additional statistical and methodological training, and present research at scientific conferences.

Continuation of this position is contingent upon funding.

This position is telework eligible within the state of Utah. Telework outside of the state of Utah is subject to review and approval by the University prior to a job offer being extended.

Responsibilities

• Lead data analysis and manuscript writing focused on the primary aims of the grants
• Engage in additional dissemination efforts including conceptualizing and writing high quality manuscripts and conference presentations
• Work as a part of a research team to coordinate data collection
• Employ best practices in the management of longitudinal and intensive time-series data
• Provide mentorship to graduate research assistants
• Communicate effectively with project PI and Co-PIs

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

• Earned Ph.D. in Human Development/Family Science, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health or related field by the time of the appointment
• Demonstrated productivity in terms of published peer reviewed journal articles and scientific conference presentations
• Advanced statistical skills, including expertise in longitudinal methods
• Ability to work in a team environment and to work without direct supervision
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

• Interest in developing an independent research program focusing on adolescent substance use
• Commitment to a research career in an academic or applied research setting
• Experience preparing grant applications and reports
