Weathering Storms and Other Disasters
We extend our hearts and thoughts to all families and individuals recently impacted by the flooding, storms, and other natural disasters — including in Texas, New Mexico, and North Carolina.
Before donating to a relief aid organization, make sure to research the organization on reputable sites like Guidestar and Charity Navigator, which rate nonprofit organizations based on their effectiveness and financial standing.
If you are working with families recovering from natural disasters and other traumatic events, NCFR has relevant resources that may be able to help you in your important work. SEE RESOURCES

NCFR Nexus: Fall 2025 Call for Practice & Teaching Articles
Submit Your Article by Aug. 1
The fall 2025 issue of NCFR Nexus will explore the impact of privilege. Family life experiences are influenced by one’s social address, which includes intersectional characteristics of one’s identity (e.g., race, gender, religion, sexuality, class, ability). Social address is associated with social advantages or disadvantages that influence family life experiences leading to many potential questions:
-
What are the effects of privilege on the ability to maintain healthy relationships?
-
Does recognition of privilege potentially lessen negative impacts?
-
Can individual power and privilege be used to advocate for others?
-
Can the power of privilege be utilized as a tool to advance social justice?
Research-focused articles on this theme have already been collected. The editor specifically invites authors of teaching and learning-focused articles and practice-focused articles that explore these questions. How do teachers in higher education classrooms explore these topics with their students? How do these topics come up for practitioners working with individuals and families in the field?
Prospective authors should submit their articles through the NCFR Nexus Article Submission Form by Aug. 1, 2025. Contact the NCFR Nexus editor, Beth Magistad, Ph.D., CFLE, with questions, ideas, and intentions.

Family Relations Presents Special Issue on Artificial Intelligence
A new special issue is available from NCFR’s Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR) themed "Artificial Intelligence in Everyday Family Life" and guest-edited by NCFR member Brandon T. McDaniel, Ph.D., Fayika F. Nova, Ph.D., and Jessica A. Pater, Ph.D.
The issue provides "an opportunity for reflection on the intersection of AI—broadly defined as any technological innovation that simulates human intelligence—and family dynamics as well as the study of or intervention in family dynamics," according to the guest editors' introduction. The editors go on to say that, "articles in this special issue shed light on how these technologies could impact various relationships and behaviors and thus suggest potential ethical considerations and the need for nuanced policy," and that readers will find "critical insights into how different strategies impact the AI's ability to be dynamic and integrate more individualized contexts into the engagement."
