The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has launched a public inquiry to better understand how consumers may have been exposed to false or unsupported claims about “gender-affirming care,” especially as it relates to minors, and to gauge the harms consumers may be experiencing.
Gender-affirming care for minors is supported by major medical organizations such as the American Medical Association and is provided by trained clinicians following evidence-based guidelines that prioritize open communication and informed consent.
The public is being urged to submit comments to the FTC by Sept. 26, 11:59 p.m. EDT.

JFTR Invites Papers for Special Issue
Theme: Theorizing Families and the State
Submission Deadline: Jan. 15, 2026
NCFR's Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR) has released a call for papers for a special issue with the theme "Theorizing Families and the State." Special issue editors are Bethany Letiecq, Ph.D., Deadric Williams, Ph.D., and Caroline Sanner, Ph.D.
Building on the existing work of critical family scholars, the special issue editors seek manuscripts that further delineate the ways in which family privilege and oppression are socially structured and reproduced by the state via laws, policies, rules, and regulations in the modern era and how marriage fundamentalism, in particular, operates alongside structural racism, nationalism, sexism, and heterosexism as an axis of power and control.
More detail, including key questions guiding the special issue, are available in the full call for papers.
Manuscripts are due by Jan. 15, 2026.

NCFR Policy Brief
Promoting Positive Coparenting:
Toward Comprehensive and Inclusive Family Policies
Written by Nicolas Favez, Ph.D., and Mark E. Feinberg, Ph.D.
Coparenting is the way parents and parent figures work together—through cooperation, coordination, and managing conflict—to raise children.
Research shows that the quality of this relationship strongly affects both parents’ well-being and children’s development, regardless of family structure.
Yet, many social, economic, and family policies worldwide overlook coparenting. This gap misses opportunities to strengthen families and perpetuates gender inequalities and caregiver exclusion in work and services.
This policy brief takes an international view, offering evidence-based recommendations for policies that recognize and support coparenting. These recommendations balance broad applicability with clear guidance for researchers and policymakers.

Video of the Week
Chronically Online: The Epidemic of The Century
Who can resist the simple pleasure of seeing how far or how high a bouncy ball will go once you let it go? How about 250,000 bouncy balls, set loose down the famous hills of San Francisco?
In 2005, a team of adventurous filmmakers did just that to create a British commercial for Sony Bravia TV sets. Everything was shot live with nothing generated by computers. Even a frog that jumps through the frame was real.
