NCFR is getting ready to launch registration in May for the 2026 Annual Conference. We are excited to welcome everyone to NCFR's "home turf" in Minneapolis.
This year's conference will explore how law and policy shape the lives of families and relationships across diverse social and cultural contexts. Centered on the theme, Families at the Nexus of Law and Policy, the NCFR conference will bring together researchers, practitioners, educators, and policymakers to examine critical challenges, foster collaboration, and advance NCFR’s vision of Every Family Thriving.

Celebrate International Day of Families 2026
Friday, May 15 is the annual International Day of Families observed by the United Nations to raise awareness of societal issues affecting families worldwide.
The 2026 theme will focus on family policies that reduce inequality and promote child well-being, including parental leave, universal child benefits, affordable early childhood education, and community-based support services.
Past NCFR Plenary Presenter Dominic Richardson, Ph.D., will share findings from the upcoming report Families, Inequality and Child Wellbeing in the Context of 2030 Agenda.
The main observance streams on U.N. Web TV May 15, 10–11:30 a.m. ET.

Call for Applications
NCFR Seeks Editor for Journal of Family Theory & Review
NCFR's Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR) invites applications and nominations for its next editor. The term of current editor Katherine Allen, Ph.D., concludes with the December 2027 issue.
JFTR publishes original contributions in all areas of family theory, including new advances in theory development, reviews of existing theory, and analyses of the interface of theory and method, as well as integrative and theory-based reviews of content areas, and book reviews.
The five-year editorial term begins in January 2027, with a one-year transition period. The incoming editor’s first issue as editor of record will be published in March 2028.
Submit applications or nominations by Aug. 1, 2026.

This senior leadership role is designed for an accomplished research scholar with a strong record of externally funded research, strategic leadership, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The Director will guide CYFS’s long-term vision, expand external funding opportunities, oversee fiscal and administrative operations, and strengthen partnerships across the university and beyond. The position also includes administrative leadership responsibilities, limited teaching duties, and mentoring faculty and staff while maintaining an active research agenda.
