Erin Lavender-Stott Named 2028 NCFR Annual Conference Program Chair
The NCFR Board of Directors appointed Erin Lavender-Stott, Ph.D. (they/she), as program chair for the 2028 NCFR Annual Conference. The conference is scheduled for Nov.15-18, 2028, in Arlington, Virginia.

|
Dr. Lavender-Stott is an associate professor and the coordinator of Human Development and Family Science at South Dakota State University. Their research is centered around singlehood, LGBTQ+ individuals and families across the life course.
Dr. Lavender-Stott has proposed the theme Translational Transformative Family Science. The theme builds on recent NCFR conferences and asks a practical question: how can Family Science research move beyond academic settings and more directly inform practice, policy and everyday family life?

Cognella and NCFR have partnered to recognize outstanding Family Science teachers through this prestigious award.
We are searching for outstanding higher education instructors in Family Science who bring innovation, passion, and personal drive for excellence to their teaching practices each and every day.
The first-place recipient will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and the second-place recipients will each receive a $500 Cognella book credit.
Submissions will be accepted through May 31, 2026.

Call for Applications
NCFR Seeks Editor for Journal of Family Theory & Review
NCFR's Journal of Family Theory & Review (JFTR) invites applications and nominations for its next editor. The term of current editor Katherine Allen, Ph.D., concludes with the December 2027 issue.
JFTR publishes original contributions in all areas of family theory, including new advances in theory development, reviews of existing theory, and analyses of the interface of theory and method, as well as integrative and theory-based reviews of content areas, and book reviews.
The five-year editorial term begins in January 2027, with a one-year transition period. The incoming editor’s first issue as editor of record will be published in March 2028.
Submit applications or nominations by Aug. 1, 2026.

Submit letters of intent by May 30 for a special section of NCFR's Family Relations: Interdisciplinary Journal of Applied Family Science (FR) themed "Ukrainian Forced Migrants’ Transnational Families: New Relationality and Shared Agency."

Middle schoolers face big changes in identity, independence, and peer relationships. These challenges that can be made harder by deployments and relocations. This session will equip professionals to help students advocate for themselves, keep friendships across distance, and access extracurricular activities soon after a move. We’ll highlight the role of caregivers as steady anchors and professionals as guides through unfamiliar school cultures. Participants will learn approaches that build confidence, adaptability, and leadership in preteens navigating changing environments.

- Apply two techniques to build self-advocacy skills in new school contexts.
