NCFR RESEARCH |
June JFTR Features Symposium on Paradigmatic Framework
The June issue of NCFR’s Journal of Family Theory & Review includes a "symposium on abstract theorizing in conversation with critical reflection on the very process of theorizing itself," writes JFTR Editor and NCFR Fellow Katherine R. Allen, Ph.D., in her editorial for the issue.
“As family theory instructors and students know, abstract theorizing in scholarship about families is especially challenging, given the endless variation and continuous experience of change that families embody,” Dr. Allen writes. "JFTR presents this symposium as an exercise in abstract theorizing because such examples in the family field are difficult to find."
In his original article, Larry L. Constantine summarizes the origins and development of the Paradigmatic Framework and applies the framework to examine the Circumplex Model of Marital and Family Systems, developed by NCFR Fellow David H. Olson, Ph.D.* Commentary is offered by Todd M. Jensen, Ph.D.*, Bethany Willis, Ph.D., CFLE*, Nikki DiGregorio, Ph.D.*, David C. Bell, Ph.D.*, Armeda Stevenson Wojciak, Ph.D., and Dr. Olson.

CALL FOR ARTICLES |

NCFR Nexus: Fall 2025 Call for Practice & Teaching Articles
Submit Your Article by Aug. 1
The fall 2025 issue of NCFR Nexus will explore the impact of privilege. Family life experiences are influenced by one’s social address, which includes intersectional characteristics of one’s identity (e.g., race, gender, religion, sexuality, class, ability). Social address is associated with social advantages or disadvantages that influence family life experiences leading to many potential questions:
-
What are the effects of privilege on the ability to maintain healthy relationships?
-
Does recognition of privilege potentially lessen negative impacts?
-
Can individual power and privilege be used to advocate for others?
-
Can the power of privilege be utilized as a tool to advance social justice?
Research-focused articles on this theme have already been collected. The editor specifically invites authors of teaching and learning-focused articles and practice-focused articles that explore these questions. How do teachers in higher education classrooms explore these topics with their students? How do these topics come up for practitioners working with individuals and families in the field?
Prospective authors should submit their articles through the NCFR Nexus Article Submission Form by Aug. 1, 2025. Contact the NCFR Nexus editor, Beth Magistad, Ph.D., CFLE, with questions, ideas, and intentions.

In honor of Juneteenth, the video of the week presents some reasons behind celebrating Juneteenth and its importance. CBS News catches up with Midwest and State Director of Juneteenth, Lee Henry Jordan, to talk about the commemoration of the special holiday.
